I am a Professor of Philosophy at Mount Holyoke College and affiliated graduate faculty in the Department of Philosophy at UMass Amherst.
My research focuses on the intersection between philosophy and science. I'm especially interested in questions about the nature of time, space, possibility, and probability, as well as questions about interpretations of quantum theory. While investigating these questions, I've developed my own approach to thinking about philosophical methodology, scientific methodology, and the relationship between them, all of which is set out in my book Naturalism Beyond the Limits of Science.Â
I recently finished a term as President of the Society for the Metaphysics of Science and am currently President of the Philosophy of Time Society. If you're a philosopher with interests in these areas, you should consider joining either or both of these great organizations and submitting your work to our meetings.
I live on a dirt road in western Massachusetts with my family, my dogs, and a bunch of chickens. I spend pretty much all of my free time outside skiing, running, mountain biking, and working in my garden.
